Veterinary Nurse Training
Quantock Veterinary Hospital is an approved Veterinary Nurse Training Practice (TP).
We undertake to provide excellent clinical training for our student nurses. The majority of this training can be given in the course of everyday practice, but we also spend individual time teaching specific skills.
We have trained assessors and an internal verifier who help the students and take part in the assessment of their developing practical competence.
Veterinary nurses train in two ways. The majority currently gain qualifications and experience whilst employed by veterinary practices and attending college on day release. This enables them to gain National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) over two years.
A growing number of veterinary nurses are now choosing to train as undergraduates gaining a degree in veterinary nursing, usually a Bachelor of Science (BSc). These students also spend time gaining experience and being assessed in clinical veterinary practice.
Veterinary Nurses are examined and registered through the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons www.rcvs.org.uk/ but also have their own professional body the British Veterinary Nursing Association www.bvna.org.uk/.
